Psalm 119:169-176

Good morning everyone! Well, this is the last one. This has been a lot of fun, I have been challenged greatly by studying this psalm, and I hope you have also. There have already been questions about what is next. Great question, I will look into that. If there are suggestions, please let me know. I will give a week or so for everyone to catch up if they are behind a bit, then we will draw for the journal. So if you haven’t commented yet that you were doing the challenge, let me know asap. Have a great day!

Scripture: Psalm 119:169-176

Taw

May my cry come before you, O Lord; give me understanding according to your word.

May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise.

May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees.

May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous.

May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.

I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight.

Let me live that I may praise you, and my your laws sustain me.

I have strayed like a lost sheep. See your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.

Observation:

It feels like he is summing up the last 168 verses. We can see the deep desire for God and His word in each verse. Two things stand out to me today, first, in nearly every section, the author has asked for understanding. It is most commonly believed that this psalm was written by King David over the period of his lifetime. It just shows me that even a man after God’s own heart like David never felt he knew everything and constantly sought out God.

The other thing that caught my attention today was “let me live that I may praise you,…” He has said this a couple of other times throughout this Psalm, and it makes me think of my own journey with God. Purpose. The author found great purpose in life serving God, seeking God, learning, etc..   This was more important than being king, (if the author is David) or whatever job or identity that makes us unique.

Application:

To seek understanding daily. To remember that this is something that will never end in this lifetime, there is always more to learn.

Prayer:

Thank you Lord for this piece of scripture that I could study and learn from. Thank you for giving me some new understanding of your word. Thank you for revealing to me things I had not seriously considered before. I pray for each one of us reading this today to give them a lifelong desire to seek and learn. To everyday find incredible joy in your Word and to the blessings all around us. Lord, may hunger for your incredible truths never subside. Thank you Jesus, amen!
