Scripture : wow, tough to narrow it down to a verse or two for today. But I will choose vs. 13 “you my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use you freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
Observation: Such a powerful statement here. How often do we here of a criminal being released from jail only to commit another crime and wind up back where he was. He abused the freedom he was granted and went right back into custody. Don’t we often do the same thing with our walk with the Lord? We have received freedom from sin, from bondage. But we push the limits, start dabbling in things that are questionable, and the next thing you know we get snared. And I think Paul is really emphasizing using God’s grace to get away with not treating others honestly or in love. God will forgive me. God has to forgive me. Dangerous ground to walk on.
But Paul gives the solution to this self seeking desire, “serve one another humbly in love”. Wow, so powerful!
Application: Always check my own spirit. what is my motivation for doing what i’m doing? Am I doing it in love? Am I serving one another humbly, in love?”
Prayer: Lord, thank you for this reminder today. Your ways are so simple, yet we often find them so hard to do. Help me Lord today to truly love my neighbor. Show me if my motives are not pure and my desire is satisfying the flesh. Thank you Lord for this great day, thank you for your many blessings. in Jesus name, amen.
