Biblical Stewardship-our part

Memory verse: Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything.  1 Chronicles 29:11

Last day for this memory verse, will be adding another one tomorrow. We have looked at God’s part and His promises in the previous day, now it’s time to take a quick look at what is our part in this all.

We have already talked about God owning everything. The world and everything in it. So it is only logical that the things we possess are actually God’s, and therefore we are looking after it. Our responsibility is to be a steward, or manager, of the Lord’s possessions.

“it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful” 1 Corninthians 4:2

There are so many things to consider when looking at how to be faithful stewards. This is what we are going to study in depth for the next several weeks. Things like debt, tithing, saving, spending, investing, etc…  Maybe you are up to your neck in debt, or maybe you haven’t got a dime in the bank, or maybe you are already a very faithful tither, or you have a huge bank account. It is very important to remember that as we go through this study, it doesn’t matter where you currently stand but rather there is always something more to learn and that we are taking steps in that direction.

“he who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much, and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.” Luke 16:10

Faithfulness in the small things will lead to bigger things. I remember a guy that just couldn’t believe he didn’t get promoted ahead of someone else. He was a very hard worker, probably the most knowledgeable person in the department, and probably could have been the most deserving. Except for one thing, he just couldn’t help but be late at least twice a week. Faithfulness in the small things could have lead to to something bigger. God wants to bless us also, but how can he let us handle more if we can’t handle the little we have? Now, i’m not suggesting we will all be millionaires because we are following the biblical examples of money stewardship, but rather we will find freedom from debt, we will have money in the bank, we will be able to give away more and we can teach our kids to do the same. Do you know the great feeling of having several months of wages in the account, just in case?  It’s very freeing. Do you know what you can do if you are not burdened down with debt? Almost anything you want!

Tomorrow, we will begin to look at what the bible says about debt. What is it, and how do we get out of it.

Question to ponder: What is financially burdening you?

Prayer: Lord, we know you are the provider. You have promised that. Thank you Lord for your promises. God, I ask you show me how you would have me handle what you have given me to look after. Teach me to be more faithful with what I have been entrusted. God I thank you for your word, for it is awesome and trustworthy. In Jesus name, amen.
