Biblical Stewardship -Honesty pt. 3

aaaaMemory verse 1: Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything.  1 Chronicles 29:11

Memory verse 2: “Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender” Proverbs 22:7

Memory verse 3: “the way of the fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel” Proverbs 12:15

Memory verse 4: “you shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another” Leviticus 19:11

Once again today, we are going to look at lots of scripture. We’ve talked a lot about honesty, and i truly believe most people really strive to be honest with most things in their lives. Today, lets look at the blessings and curses the bible talks about for honesty and dishonesty.

Blessings for the honest:

  1. Blessing of a more intimate relationship with God

“The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him” Proverbs 11:1

2. Blessing on the family

“A righteous man who walks in his integrity-how blessed are his sons after him” Proverbs 20:7

3. Blessing of abundance

“much wealth is in the house of the righteous, but trouble is the income of the wicked ” Proverbs 15:6

The Lord is truth and He delights in the truth. When we walk in righteousness, God just wants to shower us with blessings. God loves His children, but there is no room for dishonest gain. What does the word have to say about dishonesty?

The Curses of Dishonesty

  1. Alienation from God

“A crooked man is an abomination to the Lord” Proverbs 3:32

2. Trouble for the family

“He who profits illicitly troubles his own house” Proverbs 15:27

3. Lack of Abundance

“Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles” Proverbs 13:11

You probably noticed that a majority of the verse came out of proverbs. I encourage you to read through Proverbs as we only looked a few of the verses, there are many more on this topic. We’ve spent 3 days looking at honesty. It seems like a no-brainer type of subject, but yet, one of the most important. If we cannot be honest, whatever we do going forward is all really for nothing. We cannot ever hope to obtain God’s blessing on our finances if we are involved with dishonesty dealings.

Questions to ponder:

What may cause me to act dishonestly?

Can we practice dishonesty and still say we love God and our neighbors?

Do I have anyone I need to make it right with?

Practical homework:

Remember you are tracking your spending. Every single penny ( or nickel now 🙂  Start noting areas where you are already seeing some surprises

Lord we thank you that you call us your children, and you want to bless us. Your word says so. But you warn us to be upright, you cannot bless dishonesty. Help us in each and every decision we make to be honoring to you. Show us how to be righteous in all things. In Jesus name amen.

Tomorrow we will begin a couple day study on work.
