As i mentioned on day one of this study, there are over 2300 verses pertaining to money and possessions in the bible. There are more verses related to giving than any other in the subject of money. There are few things that would compare to the feeling of being able to give to something or someone in need. All throughout the bible, we are encouraged to be generous and give. But it can also be one of the hardest things to do, I believe, for one of two reasons; 1. we don’t think we have anything to give, or 2, we don’t want to give. Both are very real and valid reasons. If we are in a tight financial situation, lots of payments, debts, can barely keep ourselves fed, we cannot even consider giving anything way. And on the other hand, if we don’t see why we should give, we won’t either. Why should i give to a church? Why should i give to that homeless person?  What if I give and they spend it differently than I think they should? These kind of things keep us from giving. Let’s explore this huge topic over the next several days.

I am going to split this into two different themes each day. One will be some general knowledge verses on giving and generosity, and the other will be all about tithing. However, I’m going to cheat a bit on the tithing part, as I am going to give you a link to a video each day on tithing, which is the best teaching videos i have every watched on this subject. No point in me trying to re-invent the wheel here. This will be a six day study. please watch each video, they are worth every minute.

Attitude in Giving

Having the proper attitude is always important in all things we do, and it’s not exception with giving.

“if I give all my possessions to feed the poor… but do not have love, it profits me nothing” 1Corinthians 13:3

I will say however that it is ok to give even if you don’t really love it. Look what God says in the book of Malachi

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food n my Temple. If you do, says the Lord, I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” Malachi 3:10

God says put him to the test. When we test something, we are going in assuming some doubt. God says let me show you!

“for God so loved the world, that HE gave His only begotten Son” John 3:16

God set the example of giving motivated by love. We cannot out give God.
