Revelation 22:16

¹⁶ “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

You may have noticed this, but there is a paradox in this verse. How can someone be “the Root” and “the Offspring” of the same person? We cannot look at the name “Root of David” without taking into account the other name in this verse “Offspring of David”

When the book of Revelation calls Jesus the Root of David, it emphasizes that, as David’s root, Jesus preceded David. David sprung forth from Jesus, as He is the source of David’s life. And as we already know, Jesus is God, part of the triune God, and therefore also our creator. Offspring refers to the human side of Jesus, the biological descendant of David .

The LORD JESUS CHRIST is both the divine ancestor and the human descendant of David.

Revelation 5:5

Lord bless each one reading this today. Give each courage to be a light in the darkness. Help each of us to be obedient to your leading today as we may be the answer to someone’s prayer. Give us confidence in the words that come from our mouths, as they are your words Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
